How does KPI Aggregation work?

Category: KPIs

See how to enable aggregation for a KPI.

The following example shows KPI Aggregation based on aggregation type “Average” and aggregation scope “Aligned OKRs - All”.

Alice, Marketing Manager’s OKR

Let's take Alice, marketing manager, who manages 2 team leads and each team lead has 2 members reporting to them. She wants to Improve online lead generation using the following OKR.

Objective: Improve online lead generation

Key Result 1: Increase # of signups on website from 200 to 1500

Key Result 2: Achieve avg. lead to deal conversion ratio of at least 10%

Key Result 3: Increase # of followers in social media from 2000 to 3500

And she asks her team to create their OKRs with one of the Key Results Achieve avg. lead to deal conversion ratio of at least 10% and align with his OKR. Now she wants to see the aggregated average value of that KPI whenever check-ins are made in the Key Result from OKRs that are contributing to his OKR.

While the Team leads’ will be shown the aggregated average value of LDCR from their subordinates’ OKRs, the marketing manager will be shown the aggregated average value of all the contributing OKRs. He can use the aggregated value to update his Key Result.

This is modeled and shown in the picture below.

Alignment

Note: There are no limits to how many levels you can go and what types of OKRs are alignable with each other.

Now if you look at Kathleen Roger’s OKRs in the screenshot below, which is the bottom most in the alignment hierarchy above, you see this OKR.

My OKRs

From her manager Justin Weaver’s OKR, you see the aggregate value 6.0.

OKR Overview page

Now Justin weaver has updated his KR to 7.0

My OKRs list

Where Alice mills, Justin’s manager will be shown the aggregated value from all levels below her level.

Current Aggregated value 6.5

So, we can set up KPIs and alignment hierarchies to pretty much model any OKR hierarchies and aggregations/auto updates.
